LiteracyNation, Inc. was founded in 2011. We first opened our brick-and-mortar library in West Philadelphia in the winter of 2012.
LiteracyNation Inc., is a Candid-approved organization (formerly Guidestar), and we are proud to have attained Gold Transparency Status. LiteracyNation, Inc. has filed the required IRS forms to maintain our 501(3)(c) status as a nonprofit organization.
In January, 2023, LiteracyNation, Inc., was officially recognized as an Affiliate of the American Library Association, thereby solidifying our ability to better support our members with information and resources needed to achieve goals and maintain standards of literary professionalism.
In the past, LiteracyNation, Inc. operated as partner to entities building Education, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) programs and those who support our core values: providing literacy services to underserved communities of Color and supporting diverse self-published authors and independent booksellers. Today, many corporations and organizations partner with us to support our mission through sponsorship and donations, enabling us to expand our reach and increase the services we provide.
Our goal is to raise funds that support authors, libraries and community organizations, increase awareness and distribution of books that promote diversity, inclusion, and positive representation of People of Color.
We promote our member's ideas to libraries and communities across the country and in other parts of the world, through exposing their work on social media platforms, cataloguing their work in the WorldCat System, and by highlighting qualified authors at major library conferences and events.
