INDIEC@TS PROJECTS

 Submissions to WorldCat

LiteracyNation Inc., previously relied on other library systems to catalogue our members' books. Now, however, we have secured our own subscription to Worldcat. This gives us the oversight of all metadata concerning our members' submissions.

IndieC@ts

Independent Catalogers -  IndieC@ts for short.

LiteracyNation Inc.’s IndieC@ts are professional catalogers, with decades of cataloging experience, who diligently create bibliographic records in WorldCat for independently published books of all genres. Bibliographic records are created according to nationally and internationally agreed-upon standards and practices, and we ensure our descriptions, subject headings, and classifications are accurate and respectful.

Read-A-Thons

Additional Information

LiteracyNation, Inc. has raised funds through private and corporate donations, as well as our annual Read-a-Thon events. The public is invited to participate by making a donation and reading selections from diverse books. Many independent authors read from their self-published books.

From these fundraisers we have contributed to the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) and other libraries as well. We partnered with various individuals and organizations to host workshops for independent authors, highlight their books and provide them opportunities to connect with librarians and literary professionals.

All funds generated from our Read-A-Thons were given to the organizations we partnered with. One of LiteracyNation, Inc.'s superpowers is to co-create opportunities with partners who share our commitment to literacy and diversity, making a positive impact in communities of Color and promoting positive representation of BIPOC people in all genres of the publishing industry.

BARBERS & BEAUTICIANS INITIATIVE

We place Book Nooks in barbershops and beautician shops located in inner-city communities. The shelves of the nooks will be filled with books that provide positive images reflecting the youth and stories relevant to their families, experiences and everyday lives.

Call (412) 397-7579 and help us establish Book Nooks in your neighborhood shops!

ALA 2023 Annual Conference - Chicago

ALA 2023 Annual Conference - Chicago

LiteracyNation, Inc made an outstanding first appearance as the newest ALA Affiliate. During the annual conference held in Chicago, Illinois, we hosted our seven-hour "Right to Read-a-Thon."

With the help of our sponsors, donors and readers, the event was a huge success! Participants read from banned and challenged books. All money raised was donated to the ALA Merritt Fund to support librarians across the country facing discrimination, persecution or other issues due to book banning and the challenge to our freedom of access to information.

Our special guest was Jerry Craft, award-winning, bestselling author of the "New Kid" series. We were delighted to hear him speak, answer questions, read from his newest challenged book, "School Trip," and autograph copies which were given to participants.

We took a stand for "Literacy and Justice for All." That is what LiteracyNation is all about. We made a difference!
